Quote of the day

Being a fan of country western music, I love Loretta Lynn.

When asked in an interview, "How did you make it?" - her response:

You have to be first, different, or great. If you're one of them, you may make it.

I think this piece of advice could certainly be applied to writing, don't you?

I'm afraid the key word is in the last sentence, "You MAY make it." Not WILL or SHOULD...no promises or entitlement...there are other factors besides first, different, or great that could be a part of your success.

Good point! Perseverance needs to be in the mix, for sure. But so often, it's that darned slush pile standing in the way for writers. Maybe the quote should be revised for writers to say, "If you're one of them, you may make it out of the slush pile." :-)
